Jean-Claude Degueldre
was born at the beginning of the Second World War in the French part of Belgium. At the age of three, after the bombing of his town, he lost the faculty to speak for eleven years.

After finishing his study of engineering in 1962, he joined the navy to fulfil his military duty and left after serving for four years.

He then moved to South-Africa where the path of his life was to change forever. After a terrible motor bike accident, he was told that his left leg would have to be amputated. He sought the help of acupuncture. His leg was saved and he recovered completely. This was when he decided to study Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and he searched for a serious course in the Far East. He studied in Hong Kong at the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Medical School and graduated as a Dr. of Acupuncture in 1976. He decided then to return to his home country Belgium and started to practise acupuncture. He carried on with his studies of Chinese Medicine and finished the courses at the end of 1979, becoming a Doctor of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

He was very successful in his practice and at the end of 1979 was called to treat an African President. He remained as his private doctor and friend for ten years. During that time, he travelled extensively all over the world. Between his private practice, his lectures, his family life and the demanding duty as a private Presidential doctor, there was no time left for anything extra. He conducted research for the treatment of malaria and was nominated responsible for malaria in Africa by the W.H.O. where he opened numerous centres. He treated numerous heads of state and promoted Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture around the world. In 1992, 1995, 1997 and 2000, he was appointed Vice Chairman and Chairman of world congress in Asia and South Africa. He became the President of the International Institute of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in 1982 and an Executive Director of the World Association of Chinese Medicine (Beijing) in 1996. After he left his duty as a private physician, he moved to South Africa in 1991 were he became a professor at the South African college of traditional Chinese Medicine and its Chairman.

He has written 26 books on Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and conducted research not only on malaria, but also on liver diseases, breast cancer and infertility. He developed a new technique of treatment of the coccyx and has registered 6 patents. He is an 8th Dan Aikido and Qi master.

He now lives in Beijing (China) were he has developed magnetic plasters to replace the acupuncture needle.
