The practice of acupuncture throughout its long history has been carried out using many ancilliary and allied techniques. Some of these methods are of great antiquity and are discussed in the two thousand year old classic the Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine) and other ancient classical texts. Others are of more recent vintage being a spin-off of the Cultural Revolution and after, in the People's Republic of China. The older techniques too, have now been revised and modernised to keep abreast of the other recent advances in acupuncture therapy. However, all these special ancilliary techniques, both old and new, are based on the same principles of acupuncture used to treat disorders. It is only in the materials used and the methodology of their applications that they are different from one another.
