Our ancesotrs knew over five thousand years ago that "Chi (vitality) governs hsueh (blood)." Disease occurs when vitality and blood did not circulate properly. Points of meridians in which these elements circulated were found, acupuncture was performed to excite and restore the physiological functioning of the diseased parts, and the disease was cured.
The advance of Western medicine has provided us with effective remedies for removal of bacterial invasions; but, except for the use of surgery, has not been able to cure malfunctions of the internal organs. The ancient technique of Chinese acupuncture may provide some of the solutions in this regard. It is hoped that our present generation of physicians would relentlessly pursue further research to put acupuncture on a more scientific basis and to give it a more solidly grounded scientific explanation.
