The teachings of the Taoist tradition were initiated by the highly developed sage, Lao Tzu. Legend has it that, riding Westward on a buffalo, he left the center of society, having spiritually foreseen impending trouble. The legend continues that when Lao Tzu reached the far Western border, another sage who had assumed the humble position of a checkpoint official recognized the high vibration of the approaching buffalo rider and asked him to impart his wisdom for achieving a lasting peace and averting the impending chaos. Since that time, the buffalo rider has become a Taoist symbol of masters on their journey to awaken all people.
