Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Child and Adolescent Care highlights the contribution of complementary and alternative medicine to paediatric health care. In three clearly defined sections, it will be an invaluable guide for paediatric nurses, health visitors, and nursery nurses as well as other health practitioners including physiotherapists and occupational therapists : Section 1 looks at the types of complementary and alternative medicine (including Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, herbalism, Ayurveda and Anthroposophical medicines and reflexology) and moves on to discuss professional issues, such as child protection, clinical supervision, and the law; Section 2 focuses on children from 0-11 years. Key problems in the developing years of childhood including sleep, pain, eating and drinking, washing and dressing, and wound care are discussed; Section 3 is concerned with adolescence and includes menstruation, depression, acne, eating disorders and addictive behaviours. The book also contains details of useful addresses and web sites, and information on further recommended reading. Fiona Mantle is a Staff Nurse at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, and a freelance writer and lecturer in complementary and alternative medicine.
