Most people in today's workforce are experts in their own right. Whether it's mastering a complicated piece of software or managing a critical relationship, individuals have specific information, skills and knowledge that their managers - who are one step removed from the day-to-day work - often lack, As such, people must now work more independently of management, yet more interdependently with their peers. This situation raises difficult issues of how to generate a sense of accountability and create organizational alignment among such semi-autonomous workers. The Accountability/ Alignment process described in this book is an attempt to address these issues, and to bring current management practices in line with this evolving reality.
